My best action this past couple of weeks came fishing near steep drop-offs in 20-25 feet. Rigging Leeches, crawlers or chubs has been best on most days but each day is different. In the morning, evening and on cloudy or windy days, try a deep diving crankbait, they are hard to beat.
It is still a good idea to check any of those shallower weed or sand honey holes right now as fish are still using these areas too.
I still prefer to mark fish first before we wet a line during this time of year as this tends to maximize the number of fish we can put in the boat. You can scan a lot of bottom at 4 mph and locate more schools of fish, upping the odds of a good haul.
